In the studio I feel free to explore my thoughts and inspirations. I can develop my practice through play and discover different ways to interpret what I see and feel.

I adore being in nature, it is precious. Everything about the environment I live in helps me dream and grow as an artist. I believe it nurtures me, drawing inspiration from the natural forms, the scents and the light. Looking and really seeing what is offered freely also inspires me to be creative and to write poetry from time to time. The beauty I see when I travel, from my first trip to Jamaica to an incredible trip to Botswana inspired me to write a poem and create several illustrations to form a poetry picture book.

REVERSE ACRYLIC

These works explore the technique of painting acrylic directly onto acrylic sheet—from the reverse side. This unique process creates vibrant, layered effects that highlight Jo Cresswell’s love for experimentation and the unexpected challenges of working in reverse.

Painting in reverse means, first I paint what I want to see at the surface, painting acrylic directly onto acrylic, layering. Once I make the decision it's final. It can be a fascinating process and I think differently when I work in this way.
